🌿 Wafer Paper (Rice Paper)

✅ Pros

  • Cheaper

  • Lightweight and thin

  • Slightly translucent (good for light designs)

  • Great for cookies, fondant surfaces, and dry buttercream

❌ Cons

  • Not very flexible (can crack if bent)

  • Colours appear less vibrant

  • Dissolves easily with moisture

  • Not ideal for very wet cream or whipped cream cakes

  •

🧁 How to Use Wafer Paper

  • Best applied on fondant or dry buttercream.

  • If placing on buttercream, chill the cake first so the surface is firm.

  • Lightly brush a thin layer of water or edible glue on the back to stick onto fondant.

  • Avoid too much moisture — it may wrinkle or curl.

  • Keep away from humidity until serving.

🎂 Icing Paper (Frosting Sheet)

✅ Pros

  • Brighter and more vibrant colours

  • Softer and more flexible

  • Better image quality (photo cakes)

  • Suitable for buttercream and cream-covered cakes

❌ Cons

  • More expensive

  • Slightly thicker than wafer paper

  • Needs proper storage (keep sealed to prevent drying)

🧁 How to Use Icing Paper

  • Remove the plastic backing sheet carefully before use.

  • Place directly onto fresh buttercream, ganache, or fondant.

  • Gently smooth with clean, dry hands.

  • For best results, apply close to serving time (especially on whipped cream).

  • Store finished cake in the fridge, but avoid condensation forming on the image.

Directions:
1. Trim edible image with either a sharp knife or scissors.
2. Peel off plastic backing (see below)
3. Place image onto freshly iced cake or cupcakes.
4. When applying Edible Images to a hard icing (fondant), brush a small dab of water on the area prior to placing the edible image to ensure it adheres properly.
